One of my greatest joys in life is watching the faces of seniors light up when they hear a favorite piece of music played that transports them back to a memorable moment in their lifetime.

I have play lists that run the gambit from the early 1900s through the 1990s. Standards of the 30s, 40s, and 50s are always popular, and so, too, are some of the country western songs of the 60s and 70s!

I have also developed several tools for memory enhancement and support for people dealing with Alzheimer’s disease. I present these as “games” throughout the time I’m allotted to share with these folks. The “games” open a path to memories in unique ways, especially when tied to the music being played and sung. The total experience is positive and the question usually arises as to what “game” we’ll use upon my return!

All too often this generation is either forgotten or ignored… I usually take away much more than I’ve given in these situations – I count myself fortunate to have the opportunity to work with this demographic.
