Notice the small “cleats” anchoring the front brace to the kerfing? This is an idea I wanted to implement to take note of sound transference. It seemed to work just fine – and I didn’t need to cut into the kerfing to “lock in” the top braces to the sides, which is a more typical design. The center brace will receive the same cleat.

Some of these “ideas” come from the study of other instrument manufactures and designs, or from my days in the Boeing Model Shop. I worked with so many talented people, including my father, Mike Rantz, in Model Design. He would have very much enjoyed constructing the tooling used in this ukulele!

Next we’ll look at the back bracing.
