(Prev: Back Brace Sanding)

Now the fun begins! The body is mounted in the tooling and the radius dish is doing the work of sanding the radius into the back – take note in these pictures of the pencil lines “disappearing” through the sanding process. As I progress, the pencil marks “disappear” letting me know I’ve completed the operation.

A couple of these pictures also quite clearly show the two braces added to the top to create stability and integrity of a truly “flat top” ukulele.

The actual sanding time was measured in minutes whereas the tooling took hours to complete! That’s the way it goes on an initial instrument, every step that takes tooling is where the real time is spent. But, it has to be done, or the final product suffers.

Next, let’s look at the installation of the back braces.
