My greatest burst of learning all things mechanical came from 4 years at Boeing. I had the wonderful opportunity to work in the Boeing Model Shop with some of the best model makers in the world and used some very unique machinery in the process. One of the first lessons taught was layout and design. I wish I had one of those old granite layout tables in my shop… I have the next best thing, a table saw with a good flat surface.

Here’s a look at the drawing I used to lay out the back braces – these will have a 15 foot radius applied to the mating surface (pictures shown later). These are Sitka spruce braces .250 thick.

Next we’ll look at gluing the top to the sides.
